Velvet Sarees

Velvet is a woven fabric with a dense, evenly cut pile that creates its characteristic soft, plush surface and rich light-absorbing depth of colour. Traditionally made from silk, most velvet today is woven from polyester or viscose, which replicates the visual depth at a lower cost. Silk velvet remains the premium choice — its natural protein fibre takes dye exceptionally well, producing colours that appear to glow from within. Velvet's pile is directional, meaning the fabric appears lighter or darker depending on the direction of the nap, an effect exploited in cut velvet to create patterns.

Velvet sarees are a winter and festive season staple — the thick pile provides warmth while the rich surface creates a luxurious formal appearance suited to wedding receptions, Diwali occasions, and cocktail events. Most pieces have a contrast georgette or silk pallu to balance the weight of the velvet body.

Care: velvet should never be folded along the pile — store rolled or hung to prevent crushing. Steam rather than iron; never press velvet face-down as this flattens the pile permanently.
