Pashmina Sarees & Stoles
Pashmina is a fine-grade cashmere wool derived from the undercoat of the Changthangi goat, raised at altitudes above 4,000 metres in the Changthang plateau of Ladakh. The fibres measure 12–16 microns in diameter — finer than the finest Merino wool and significantly softer than regular cashmere. Authentic Pashmina is hand-spun and hand-woven in Kashmir, where the craft has been practiced for over 500 years. The term "Pashmina" is protected under the Geographical Indications Act for products originating from Kashmir's registered weavers.
Pashmina sarees and stoles in this collection range from plain-woven natural Pashmina in ivory and natural tones to embroidered Kashmiri Pashmina with needle-work (sozni) embroidery. Greenways also carries Pashmina blends — typically Pashmina-silk — which offer similar warmth and softness at a more accessible price point, clearly identified in each product listing.
Authentication note: genuine Pashmina will pass through a finger ring (the "ring test"), burn like hair when singed (not melt like plastic), and feel extraordinarily soft against skin with zero pilling in the short term. Machine-spun "Pashmina" imitations are widely sold — all Pashmina pieces in this collection are hand-spun unless stated otherwise.
